Seasonal and Physical Change

We change just like the seasons, so why try to resist such change?  You don't see fall time resisting its natural process of decay.  What would happen if we could just embrace what we look like?  After all, we embrace nature when it goes through this process...one could say it actually brings some amount of joy into their lives.

One thing is for certain, change is an inevitable process.  I've heard the phrase, "change is the only constant in this lifetime" and I couldn't agree more.  It comes in many forms, one of them being physical which is what we will discuss in the following paragraphs.  Of course as we age, we change.  Our bodies begin to deteriorate, fat storage increases, energy levels can diminish, wrinkles around the eyes, sagging of the skin, and so on; a transformative process if you will.  However, there are ways we can go about raging against the dying of our physical form, two of them being acceptance and embracement.

Even though physically we start to "transform" with some of us maybe actually becoming stronger through a healthy lifestyle, it all nonetheless starts with a choice.  There is good new with this aging process though.  Something amazing happens when our bodies start to lose their resiliency and what not.  We become less identified with physical form and more associated with thought form.  Why do you think wisdom comes with age?  Because we see the impermanent nature of our bodies and connect more to the eternal self.  It is not our bodies that are experiencing this life (even though they too are part of it), it is the consciousness, spirit, soul, and awareness we see that we are.  This body is just part of the whole.  Moving on.

Think about this...as a Western culture, we are extremely identified with form (physical).  People actually get surgical procedures done to put something IN there bodies.  Now, do you see the problem with this?  We are unnecessarily putting something in our bodies that WILL NOT last forever.  When we realize that this body won't last forever, it liberates us and directs us more into spirituality.

What if we could see this deterioration as a beautiful process instead of an "ugly" one or however you want to call it.  Take a look at the changing of seasons for example...how beautiful is fall time!?  Its like the best, right!?  I do enjoy spring time too however being a Pisces and all :)  Nonetheless, if you have ever seen the leaves change on a tree, I highly doubt you looked at it and said, "dang, they could use some work to look better."  Doesn't that sound silly?  haha, I think it does.  Instead of saying such a blasphemy filled statement, we embrace and accept its current state of being, judge it (even though we say how beautiful or awe creating it is) and allow it to be what it has become.  Are you catching on to what I am getting at?

Just like seasons, we change with them..just on a longer and more linear line of life.  If we could condense our entire life into the 4 seasons, one would notice that we are extremely similar to nature.

Lets start around March 20th since this is the first day of spring AKA "the day we are born".  The trees and surrounding plant are beginning the process of rebirth, just as we are.  As days pass, plants and trees begin to grow, just like we do.  We transform from this blank canvas into beautiful art work, gaining strength, acquiring knowledge, and whatever else.  Then Summer roles around where we are at the "peak" of life.  Maybe this is where our bodies look the best, in our prime, and just getting after life, having the most fun, and anything else you can add into this.  See how similar we are to the process of seasonal change!?  It blows me away.  I wish I could give you more info on Fall and Winter time but I have not arrived there yet.  Also, on a side note, what I just relayed doesn't apply to everyone :) some of us are at our peak as each year goes on and our health may get better and better as we age compared as to when we were younger.  It is all dependent on the choices we make NOW.  How long do you want your Seasons to last?

You get where I am getting at.  In order to live liberated, we must accept that seasons do change and there is a constant process that occurs with it.  The birth (re), growth, shed, transform.  Remember, what we do NOW determines the rest of our life with extraneous variables that occur along the way which are out of our control.  As we move forward, remember to accept the process of change, and embrace the change that occurs.  Much love my friends!
